All about us
I was studying a degree in design and Leith was an apprentice plumber. This was the year that Leith turned 21 and what better way than to celebrate with a Buccaneers theme at the local footy club at My Lofty.
Leith was working on a station in remote Queensland at the time so I let my creative license loose and designed and made back drops and decorations for the whole pirate theme. One thing lead to another and we started having friends ask if we could decorate their parties.
After a successful year of providing decorations for friends parties and helping out a balloon decorating business in the city we decided to open our first store in Stirling, South Australia May 1992. We called it 'Adelaide Design a Party Decorators'. This was an upstairs office we converted into a little shop in the Oak Tree Plaza in Stirling. We were providing retail party supplies and then started to expand in to small party hire goods. We offered services of Clowning for parties, balloon decorations and hire goods.
We needed more retail space, our business was expanding and we were running out of room in our little store so we moved to where the now current computer shop is in Stirling in Gardiners Mall. We had more exposure, could fit more stock and even created our own Santas Little Cave at Christmas time where kids could come and sit on Santas knee. We had also added Bouncy Castles to the list of Hire Goods available through our business.
This also saw our business name change to 'L&J's Party Hire" and this for obvious reasons were the initials of our name, we thought it reflected our services better as we were now increasing our Hire stock on a monthly basis.
Another bold move for our store, this time we down sized but felt we were in a better location for our customers and this was to the shop where John's Barber is currently positioned in Stirling. It was a 'shoebox' as we used to call it but it served its purpose well, our Hire Goods were over flowing filling up our parents sheds with tables, chairs and marquees.
Our thinking caps went on again and this time we decided we needed a better business name that really summed up all our products and services we offered and so 'The Party Company' evolved. This was the perfect business name for balloon decorations, party hire, party supplies as we felt it covered everything that we did and would be definitely easier to search for online, phonebooks instead of the letters L&J.
We decided to open a second store in Mt Barker on the old Princes Highway, this had more shedding space out the back, a retail area and we felt we could service the ever expanding Mt Barker township.
We were supplying balloons for corporate events in the city and hills, retail supplies and hiring marquees, bouncy castles and more from our two stores.
We were overflowing with Hire Goods, Stirling was great for the party supplies and balloons but we were filling up carpark spaces with hire goods for customers to collect, our Mt Barker Shop was busting at the seams with Hire Goods too so we made a brave decision and that was to close our Stirling Store after 20 years in Stirling and lease our current shop in 71 Gawler Street, Mt Barker. We moved everything from Stirling and our Mt Barker Shop to this one store. It had the capacity to hold all our hire goods in the warehouse at the rear of the building, have a dedicated Wedding Room setup for Hire Goods and Supplies, a large retail area, a cleaning room as we do everything inhouse and just so much more space. Everything is now under the one roof and we can offer everything from our current store, balloons, party supplies, party hire and more. You will be amazed what is out there and available for any event, we are here to service your needs.
We Opened our Online Store and have called it 'Boutique Balloons' because of our love for balloons and beautiful partyware!
We are celebrating 25 years this year, we have come along way. We have 4 beautiful children, have kept our business a family affair. We employ local people of the Adelaide Hills and pride ourselves on what we have achieved from starting out our business at the ages of 21 and 22 years.
We cannot thank enough our loyal customers and local businesses who have supported us over all the years and continue to support us because without you guys we would not exist!
